Baden, Austria Travel Guide

Austria Mountains 300x225 Baden, Austria Travel GuideBaden, Austria was where Beethoven finished his greatest work, the Ninth Symphony. But the musical connection does not end there: Johann Strauss frequently gave concerts in Baden’s spa park, and there is a temple dedicated to Mozart in Baden too.

Baden is also a spa town, as its name suggests. The healing, sulfuric waters of the town’s Wellness Center are fed from a Roman well to the tune of seven million liters of water a day (The Romans referred to as Baden “Aquae.”)

Baden is also a wine town, and has been well-known for its wines since the Romans improved them. About 70 percent are white, mostly employing Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Neuburger and typical grapes of the thermal region – Rotgipfler, Zierfandler, Muskat and Traminer.

And to top it all off, the rose garden or rosarium in Doblhoffpark happens to be Austria’s largest rose garden. Over 30,000 rose bushes bloom twice a year, in June and October. And Baden’s Baden’s spa park is one of the largest in Europe.

Baden is occasionally called “Baden bei Wien” or Baden near Vienna to distinguish it from Baden Baden, Germany.
