Located at Grand Canyon West on the Hualapai Indian Reservation, Grand Canyon Skywalk is owned and operated by the Hualapai tribe, which hopes to improve the economy of the new landmark. An engineering marvel or a colossal eyesore, a horseshoe-shaped glass walkway jut out 70 feet beyond the canyon’s edge. Supported by 1 million pounds of steel and supporting 90 tons of tempered glass, a translucent deck give visitors a view of the canyon.

The structure, comprising a U-shaped glass bridge cantilever protruding from the Grand Canyon, the dream of entrepreneur David Jin of Las Vegas. The Skywalk Glass Bridge Construction began in March 2004 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2006. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin led the first pedestrian in the Grand Canyon Glass Skywalk in a private ceremony on March 28, 2007.

The Skywalk extends 70 meters from the open edge of the canyon, where it is anchored deep in the rock landscape. It will be open from dawn till night, and the price of admission is $ 25 per person. A total of 120 people will be allowed on the bridge at any given time, each must wear special shoe covers to prevent slipping and scratching.
