We arrived at Singapore’s Changi Airport late in the morning on Saturday. Our plan was set – had lunch, came home to drop off our bags, went to Orchard Road to change money, visit the Raffles Hotel for a Singapore Sling was the original, then go to the Singapore Night Safari!
Quick tips:
~ Wear something light and cool, short pants are allowed in the park.
~ Wear walking shoes. Yes, there will be a lot of walking. A LOT of walking.
GETTING THE NIGHT SAFARI
We are planning to commute to Singapore Night Safari from Orchard Rd. (In the city) but forgot the direction and number of buses to take so we took a taxi instead. : P It’s not so expensive if there are 3 or 4 of you share.
We were surprised to note that not so far from Orchard Road …
If you intend to go home, the easiest way is to take a chartered bus that will take you directly to the Night Safari. From the city, the bus starts at 18:00.
For locations and schedules, visit the Web site of Singapore Night Safari.
The park is open at 7:30, but the shops and restaurants open at 6:00 PM. Make sure you leave some time to queue for your ticket (there’s always a long line). Also, reserve some time to look around the souvenir shops.
Park closes at 12midnight, almosright after the last creature Show Night – more on that later.
We arrived around 20:00 and march for our tickets. The entrance fee is S $ 22.00 (or approx Php660.00) for adults and S $ 11.00 (or roughly Php330.00) for children 3 to 12 years.
You will also have the option to take a tram tour with tour guide. This route will take you all the way around the entire park, but only stopped briefly at a certain point. If you can run longer than you usually walk (lol) I would recommend you take only footprints.
Quick tips:
~ The best time to get there will be about 19:00. That will give you enough time to have a leisurely pace and see the place just before the end of the Show Night Creatures.
~ Taking footprints will give you more time to look around and watch the animals walk, eat, hunt or just relax in their natural habitat. Plus is a great exercise.
FOOD AT NIGHT SAFARI
We asked if we were allowed to bring food inside the park and they told us, but remember to be careful and avoid the attention of animals as they will be able to smell the food (or perhaps because WE are food lol).
There are several restaurants available there, some for good sit-down meal, and some more fast food type such as burgers and fries. They are a bit expensive, so if you can, better dinner before going to Safari. I would recommend going to one of the Republic of Food. Ah yes. This is very similar to our local BC Food tennis, only more shops with a distinct Asian food.
Quick tips:
~ Is dinner before you go to the Night Safari to have more time to stroll and enjoy the animals.
~ If you bring food in, share – but not with animals. Lol.
FREE SHOW AT NIGHT SAFARI
Once we arrived, Borneo Ethnic Actors begin immediately. This is a free cultural show with dancing flames, climb the mast and playing the drums. They have shown them in photomound, close to area restaurants and shops at 7:00, 20:00 and 09:00. It would be good to catch them before you go into.
Other shows are free, Creatures of the Night Show is a MUST SEE when you visit the Night Safari. Doing a daily show at 7:30, 8:30, and 21:30 with additional shows at 10:30 on Friday, Saturday and holiday nights.
We saw the last event, one at 10:30 and is really lucky with seating – 3 lines! I do not want to give the show away, but there are some pretty cool tricks with the animals they already have their features.
