Lanzarote 300x195 Holidays in Lanzarote

This Winter Keen to escape the doom and gloom of a British winter this year without breaking the bank? The Canary Islands offer cost effective winter breaks for all and are just four hours flying time from the UK. Whilst many of the larger islands such as Tenerife have been left a little tainted by tourism Lanzarote remains relatively untouched. Thanks to strict local planning laws that outlaw the construction of high rise buildings or the siting of advertising hoardings anywhere on the island. As a result Lanzarote has retained much of it original charm and character intact. And this winter there has never been a better time to visit. Thanks to the introduction of cheap flights to Lanzarote for the first time by Ryanair. Who are offering returns from as little as £9.99. In the past the cheapest available return would cost at least £100.

What´s the weather in Lanzarote like during the winter months? The island is located close to the Tropic of Cancer and is just 80 miles away from the southern coast of Morocco. So visitors can expect to enjoy temperatures in the 20´s Celsius. With very little rainfall. Making it possible to enjoy days by the pool or on the beach. Accommodation in Lanzarote also offers good value for money. This winter for example it’s possible to book a one bedroom apartment in the main resort of Puerto del Carmen for as little as £160 per week. Whilst rental rates for Lanzarote villas start at round £450. Which is very cheap in comparison with other Spanish islands such as say Mallorca.

Which is the best resort? During the winter months it’s best to follow the example of the swallows and head for the south. As even a small island such as this has a pronounced microclimate. Playa Blanca is located at the southern end of Lanzarote and offers the most reliable weather from November through until March. The town has rapidly evolved into Lanzarote´s second most popular resort in recent years and it’s easy to see why. As it offers plenty of modern hotels and villas along with a relaxed atmosphere. All set against a picturesque backdrop – with the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura just 8km away across the Bocaina Straits. Playa Blanca is also ideally located for exploring the island number on tourist attraction of the Timanfaya Volcano Park. Which is just a ten minute drive away but a world away in terms of scenery.
